Spoiler Alert this is a musical.
Koreans always make the moms judgmental and harsh on the new wife. According to my research, that’s just the culture.

This movie isn’t different in that fact except they develop Miss Granny’s life story. Of course after introducing her as switch toting slave driver, they show her rival side, then her delicate side. The transitions are nice they make the story flow as the movie paints the picture of a young widow who struggled during a time of war.
Introducing her youthful side also helps in developing the story, it opens up more of an image that she kept hidden because she didn’t want to burden anyone. That’s the most important message that I liked about this movie. Never did it occur to her to ever give up even when she became a single parent.
From the very start, despite her age status, she was at work. It helps develop a character that isn’t useless or gives up easily. Introducing her as a hard worker and resilient to other women’s attitudes made it believable that she went through the tribulations she did. The attitude that’s introduce in the beginning translates to why she holds her standards high for her daughter-in-law and granddaughter. She wants them to also take care of their families and live fulfilling lives; in terms of her granddaughter.
I hope you watch this enjoy the family aspect of it as much as the young man failing love with aged women part too.

It’s well worth the watch. Also leave a comment about what you thought about Miss Granny and her Hepburn style.
P.S my favorite songs from the movie are White Butterfly and When in the City of Los Angeles.
