*Spoiler Alert please watch the anime first.*
Ranma ½ is at first interesting, funny and surprising. Then you get into the swing of things and past the comedy, love triangles and made up martial arts gymnastics and it’s slice of life nature can get boring. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy slice of life type manga. One example is Flat, a tamer slice of life. It was funny, boring at times but one thing it wasn’t is repetitive. Ranma ½ is guilty of this. Episode after episode of Akane’s tsundere attitude. It’s make you think when is this character going to grow and evolve.
Another thing, besides Akane’s issues, everything is always blamed on Ranma. No matter the circumstance to the point that it’s sad. Even though they dress it up in a funny and colorful way it reminds of Naruto’s origin. Him as a child and a majority of the village against him. This is a light hearted anime, noted, but that just rubs me the wrong way. Let’s not forget his dad sold him for some rice; more than once.Despite that, his father is very protective of him and wants the best for him. It was those little bits, the strong relationships, that kept me watching the anime for sometime.
Moving along I did enjoy the funny stories though. Like when Ryoga(P-chan) got lost even on his way to a lot behind his house. I can even admit that I at first liked Akane’s strong female vibes, but what I liked most were the scenes with Ranma and Akane just being themselves. I like how the childishness was put away for a second-even though it’s a weird child marriage arrangement- and they acted like nervous teens that had a hard time admitting their feelings for each other. That gave me a break from the crazy zany ridiculousness of the story.
Most of all though, what I liked in this anime was how Ranma had a backbone and fought with Akane. He even admits his lady curves were better than Akane’s. His spirit for not giving up is very inspiring which makes his/her character really cool. Tell me what you think of this anime. It was to long for me to finish at the moment but tell me do they ever get to kiss without being interrupted?
