Hello and welcome back to another movie and TV review!! In honor of Mother’s Day (that I genuinely forgot about, lol), this week we’ll be diving into another psychological thriller, Mother.

Wowwwww! “What the heck did I just watch?” was my honest opinion as the credits started rolling. Lol. This movie had so many twists and turns I still have whiplash. Not to mention the star-studded cast. Even though I hate the movie, I’m talking Parasite peach lady Lee Jung-eun, who played Moon-gwang, and my all-time favorite from Reborn Rich, Yoon Je-moon, Jin Do-jun’s uncle, Jin Young-ki.

This movie shows the extent of a mother’s reckless love for her “helpless” child. And my word, that shit was reckless. Excuse my English. With that said, let’s get ittttt!

After the senseless murder of a town’s scarlet temptress, the community is left in uproar as the culprit is none other than its slow-witted ‘fool’ Yoon Do-joon.
In the process of his mother’s sleuthing to prove his innocence, everyone’s dirty secrets slowly unfold.  

Honestly, my guy is an evil genius. He took advantage of society’s perception of him and pushed his luck, and my ninja got away with literal murder with the help of his mother. In today’s terms, he’d probably just be considered neurodivergent. On some level, he clearly had comprehension because whenever someone called him a fool or a retard, my guy understood exactly what they meant and he went ham!

Sure, he was slow to recall facts, but nothing truly out of the norm seemed wrong with him. Personally, I believe he played up the fact that he was mentally challenged, and honestly, I think he was testing the boundaries of his freedom. His community allowed his bad behavior because they felt sorry for him.

I love how the film played with the concept of the living and the dead by bringing Ah-jung back to life during the interrogation scenes. My guy Jin-tae went straight-up gangster on them. I don’t condone violence, but wow — sleek leather jacket and all. Lol. Besides the mother in full-on Taken mode, I’d say Jin-tae was my favorite character, despite him being a scoundrel. lol.

Sidenote: where the fish did she get that cash, by the way? Sis either was secretly holding back while playing the brokie single mother, or she became reckless borrowing money. That was serious cash she pulled out.

My question is: why didn’t they help her while she was alive? In death, the whole community showed up to mourn her loss, but in life they ignored her living situation. Sis was taking care of her drunk grandmother. It was no secret she was sleeping with older men for favors and rice cakes. They so cleverly called her “Rice Cake Girl.” Then when she died, everyone was scrambling to get their hands on her cellphone to save their worthless sorry asses. The worst part was that the pictures she took were of the old men she serviced. Rest in peace, sis!! This world is messed up.

In the end, Do-joon got away with murder by framing someone even worse off than him — an orphan who probably had more limitations than he did. I found out this old film — wow, 2009 is considered old now, lol — was captured a mother’s love beautifully while constantly making you question who the real victim is. The mother? The commmunity? Obviously Ah-jung. Maybe even Do-joon?

Anypoops, I give Mother a fresh rose out of Mirai’s garden. Never seen anything like this gem, and probably won’t see one again… at least I hope not. Tell me what you think in the comments.
